This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with interior designer Chris Barrett, who will be a panelist at Design West at the Las Vegas Market in Las Vegas January 23. In this episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Chris talks about her view of Las Vegas design; the future of design (more reusable and digital); how she works with clients; the first commission she received after transitioning from being an actor; her favorite celebrity client; and how COVID has affected thee world of design.
Having grown up in Los Angeles, the thought of living both indoors and out comes naturally to Chris. Following her studies at UCLA’s prestigious Interior Design program, she has created residential and commercial interiors that represent the simplicity and natural beauty that is Southern California living. Her approach is based on extensive research, visioning and communication, always presenting a strong story and reliable snapshot for her client’s dream interiors. Chris is reverent towards the architectural history of each project but fearless in adding a light touch of humor within its framework. From 2006-2009, Chris lead the interior design team for the award-wining Los Angeles-based design and architecture firm KAA Design Group, collaborating on interiors at the highest end of the residential and commercial markets.
Since the re-launch of the new firm under her own name in 2009, Barrett has applied her knowledge of the early planning processes in architecture to add yet another layer to her work. Chris has served as president of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Classical America, Southern California Chapter.
