NEVADA PRESERVATION FOUNDATION KEEPS ARCHITECTURAL MEMORIES ALIVE
With the closing of the Tropicana (a bittersweet moment for me since I worked there as director of public relations 1986-97) and the previous implosions of the Dunes, Hacienda, Landmark, Stardust and Riviera, it’s a challenge to hold on to history in Las Vegas.
Some of our museums do a great job, such as the Mob Museum and the Neon Museum. Another group, the Nevada Preservation Foundation, works to preserve and revitalize historic buildings, communities and places in Las Vegas and throughout Nevada.
Every year (this year it's April 25-28), the organization brings our memories to the forefront with Home + History Las Vegas,, the largest heritage tourism festival in Las Vegas, which achieves its success through an array of programs delivered by local historians in the neighborhoods, commercial centers, and unique historic venues.
These individuals research, write, and share their own content, showcasing the Vegas cultural heritage through storytelling in a variety of tours, events, and educational seminars.
