This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with comedian Rocky Laporte, headlining in the Laugh Factory at the Tropicana Las Vegas (through June 12). In this episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Rocky talks about about his style of comedy, which is considered unique but organic; how the negative reaction from family and friends about starting his comedy career drove him to success; how he dealt with COVID as a comedian; why his observations about bits of stuff in everyday life leads him to comedy material; and his decision to work clean.
Rocky LaPorte’s appeal comes from his everyman, streetwise style of comedy. Delivering laughs in his trademark Brooklyn accent (he’s a former Chicago truck driver and dock worker), Rocky appeared “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” performed on season 8 of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing!”, was featured on his own “Comedy Central Presents” special and was on Showtime‘s “The Godfathers of Comedy,” a special starring five of America’s most hilarious Italian-American comics. On the big screen, he has been seen in two Tim Allen movies – “Crazy on the Outside” and “The Shaggy Dog.”
