This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with award-winning international wine and food writer Marisa Finetti. In this 30-minute episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Finetti talks about becoming a wine writer only after moving to Las. Vegas, despite her past history as a grape grower; why she decided to write in an accessible style in order to promote an understanding of wine; how she sees a wine culture in Las Vegas developing in Las Vegas; the steps in tasting wine (while sharing a bottle of Ruchè Di Castagnole Monferrato with Ira during the show); and a full explanation of her wine doodles!
Finetti was born in Tokyo and raised in the San Francisco surrounded by her family’s restaurant and retail businesses. After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a journalism degree, she specialized in entertainment public relations for Paramount Pictures and Rogers & Cowan before moving to the California wine country where she became a grape grower in Dry Creek Valley.
Since moving to Las Vegas, Finetti has written regularly for Las Vegas, regional, and international publications about food, wine, and travel. She contributes regularly to DECANTER, DAVID, CLASS, and Modern Luxury VEGAS magazines, among others.
She travels often, particularly to Italy to meet with producers, taste their wines, and connect with their passion for the land.
Finetti is a 2016 and 2018 fellowship recipient of the Symposium for Professional Wine Writers, holds an Advanced Level 3 wine certification with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), and is a Certified Piedmont Food & Wine Specialist through The Italian International Indigenous Wine and Food Studies Center (3iC).
