This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with Kathleen Dunbar .
Comedian Kathleen Dunbar, who is performing at Big Al’s Comedy Club at the Orleans through June 15, was born and raised in the Midwest. In 1999 she found herself struggling as a single mother. But instead of going crazy, she developed a brassy, hysterical outlook on her life. On a dare, she signed up to perform at a local open-mic night. Three weeks later she was opening for Emo Philips at a five-star comedy club. Since that night, Kathleen has taken the comedy industry by storm.
In 2002 she made the move to Las Vegas. By the end of that year she was starring was in her own show, “Ladies Night Out,” at the Greek Isles Hotel. That same year she won the Star Search Las Vegas Comedy Competition, sponsored by KLAS TV 8 and Station Casinos.
In 2003 she moved to the strip in “Kathleen Dunbar’s Divas of Comedy” at the Sahara Hotel. She gained recognition and was named by Entertainment Consumers Exchange “2003 Female Comedian of the Year.” Since then she’s been honored with numerous awards and praises.
