Talking With Jack Russell – May 8, 2023
This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with Jack Russell, who performs with his group, Jack Russell’s Great White, this Friday, May 12 at 8 p.m. in The Golden Nugget Las Vegas. In this episode of “The Talk About Las Vegas Podcast” Jack talks about his early years in rock; how the band found its niche; what has happened to rock; what drives him to perform; the importance of loyalty and his long-time fans; and using humor to survive.
Jack Russell was born in Montebello, California and grew up with influences such as Robert Plant and Steven Tyler, becoming a vocalist for many bands in high school and later on. He met Mark Kendall in a concert and began plans to form a band called “Dante Fox.” Band manager Alan Niven and Kendall decided to change the name of the band to Great White because "that was Mark Kendall's nickname. He had very white hair and very light complexion. They called him the Great White."
