This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with Marvin Menzies.
Marvin Menzies, who was selected as the head coach of the UNLV men’s basketball program on April 16, 2016, talks about why he decided to pursue a coaching career instead of economics, his leadership style, how he communicates with players and recruits, and why he believes in giving back to the community.
Menzies came back to Las Vegas after nine years as the head coach at New Mexico State. Under his direction the Aggies have appeared in the postseason each of the last five seasons and six of the last seven years.
Menzies led NMSU to its fifth straight 20-win season in 2015-16, and seventh in eight years, as it was 23-11 overall and 13-1 in conference play. The Aggies have won 35 straight home conference games, which is the second-longest such streak in the nation.
This April, 24-7 Sports ranked the Rebels with the 12th best recruiting class nationally. Shakur Juiston, Tervell Beck, Chiekh Mbacke Diong, Amauri Hardy, Anthony Smith and Brandon McCoy have all signed to join the UNLV men's basketball program for the 2017-18 season.
