This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with Bill Fayne.
Bill Fayne, along with RagTag Entertainment, will present “Stephen Sondheim's Company” at the LVH on July 9 and 10, followed by Sondheim’s revue “Putting It Together,” a compilation of some of the greatest Sondheim songs at the Smith Center Cabaret Jazz Room on July 15. Richel Kompst and Lou De Meis, two of the cast members in both shows, join Bill in the conversation.
Bill, a Las Vegas resident, has been musical director of more than 50 musical theater productions, operas, and T.V. shows over the past 35 years. He has appeared as a guest conductor with the Atlanta, Columbus, Delaware, and Buffalo symphony orchestras.
As an arranger, Bill has worked with Clint Holmes (their musical association goes back more than 25 years), Suzanne Sommers, Gloria Loring, Ann Jillian, Hal Linden, Mickey Rooney, and Kathie Lee Gifford. On television, Bill was on various Bob Hope specials, “The Tonight Show,” “The Joan Rivers Show,” and others.
