This week, Ira Sternberg spoke with Los Angeles-based chanteuse and songwriter Jessica Fichot, who will be performing at three Las Vegas Clark County Library locations, December 13-15 (free admission). In this 30-minute episode of Talk About Las Vegas, Jessica Fichot talks about her heritage, being raised by a Chinese mother and French father; spending her youth in and around Paris, moving to Los Angeles and pursuing a music career with a unique style and independent approach; embracing her international influences; and deciding to make the accordion her instrument of choice.
Drawing from her multi-ethnic French / Chinese / American upbringing, her music fuses styles and languages, taking the listener on a journey out of the French chanson tradition, into the lands of gypsy jazz, 1940s Chinese swing, international folk, and into the wilderness of her imagination.
Recently, in addition to recording and performing with her band, Jessica Fichot started working on another (different but related) passion of hers: creating music and sound effects for indie video games.
With over 100 children's songs published in a dozen countries, she also composes music for many children's educational programs.
